Market Morsel

The Dubbo saleyard is closed for the next two weeks due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the facility. How much cattle, sheep and lamb throughput does the Dubbo sale yard manage on a national basis? Meat and Livestock Australia provide a summary of saleyard throughput each financial year so we crunched the numbers for 2019/20 to have a look at the importance of the Dubbo yards.

In terms of cattle throughput Dubbo holds about 3.5% of the national share of cattle sales, sitting in 5th place nationally with nearly 156,000 head reported in 2019/20. The market share of sheep and lamb sales nationally has the Dubbo yard sitting in 6th place with 5.7% of the national transactions or about 802,000 head of sheep and lambs sold in the 2019/20 season.
