Market Morsel: Lamb exports spring into life

A 14% increase in total lamb export volumes was noted for September to see 21,854 tonnes swt consigned.

This level is a 7% improvement on the September 2019 flows and is 20% above the five-year seasonal trend for September.

Underpinning the growth in total lamb export demand has been a 17% gain in volumes from August to September for the USA. Lamb export volumes to the USA for September are 31% above the seasonal average pattern for this time in the year.

Meanwhile, lamb flows to China increased 7% during September. While current season flows are still 28% below the September 2019 volumes they remain 32% above the five-year average for September.
