Market Morsel: Live sheep lull

Market Morsel

The Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment (DAWE) live sheep export data for February 2021 recorded levels consistent with the northern hemisphere summer moratorium with just 4,753 head of sheep consigned.

None of the normal middle eastern destinations (Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, UAE) took any Australian sheep over February with nearly 60% of the flows going to Malaysia. The meagre February flow of live sheep exports represents levels that are a massive 97% under the five-year February average and 93% under the level seen during February 2020.
