Market Morsel

Meat and Livestock Australia weekly lamb slaughter figures for the week ending 4th September show a 12% increase on the Victorian figures. This takes their weekly lamb processing to nearly 144,000 head, just 11% under the average trend for this time in the year.

Combined with elevated weekly NSW lamb slaughter levels, which have averaged over 113,000 head for the last seven weeks, this places total weekly East coast lamb slaughter at nearly 314,000 head. This is just 4% under the average seasonal trend.

While Victorian processors are not out of the Covid-19 woods yet it’s a step in the right direction. As discussed on a previous Market Morsel we need Victorian processors to be as close to full capacity come the Spring flush as Victoria has processed over 50% of the nation’s lamb in recent years.
