East coast cattle yarding levels are running well below trend. Since the start of 2021 average weekly yardings are 44% below the five-year pattern. Last week saw throughput levels increase from 17,874 to 33,241 head as sale yard operations began to normalise from the festive season break. However, this still represents volumes that are 30% below the five-year average seasonal pattern for this week in the year.

A breakdown of the mainland east coast states cattle yarding levels from last week highlights that:

  • Queensland is 52% under trend
  • NSW is 43% below trend
  • Victoria is 13% ahead of trend
