Market Morsel

Weekly cattle yarding in Queensland recovers back above 21,000 head to almost perfectly match the levels seen for this week in 2021. Cattle volumes for the week ending 11th March hit 21,311 head, just one more than this time last year.

Throughput numbers recovered 125% from the week prior, when sale yard cattle volumes were hampered by floods, closed roads and very wet conditions, particularly in South East Queensland.

Current cattle throughput in Queensland is siting 22% above the five-year average trend for this time in the season. The recovery in northern markets helped to see weekly east coast cattle throughput lift by nearly 37%.

However, below average cattle volumes in NSW and Victoria (47% and 13% below the average trend, respectively) mean that east coast totals are running 15% below the five-year trend for this week in the year.
