Mutton Export Summary August 2023

Total Australian mutton exports lifted by 23% during August 2023 to see 15,856 tonnes swt shipped. Compared to the five-year trend this places mutton export volumes 34% above the average seasonal pattern. Underpinning the strong outcomes for mutton exports continues to be firm Chinese demand. So far this year exports of Australian mutton to China have set a new record each consecutive month, and August is no exception with the highest flows for August on record seen this year. Mutton to China in August was 6,616 tonnes, an increase of 23% on there levels exported during July and is 43% higher than the five-year average for August.
