The closure of Victorian pig processor Diamond Valley Pork (DVP) due to a Covid-19 outbreak saw pig processing volumes ease significantly.

There has been a 320% lift in processing last week as the DVP site got back online, but restrictions on processing capacity has seen slaughter volumes remain 34% below the average 5-year trend.

South Australian pig processors provided a relief valve for the additional Victorian pigs needing to be processed. This keeps pigs that are due for slaughter from banking up, with SA processing levels 22% above the 5-year average trend for this time in the year.
