This week saw the announcement of a free trade deal between Australia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced. A look at agricultural export flows for the 2022/23 financial year shows the top agricultural exports, by value, are canola and red meat (sheep & goat, and then beef).

Last financial year saw A$0.57 billion of Australian canola sent to the UAE from a total Ag commodity trade of A$1.72 billion. Sheep & goat meat sat at $A0.3 billion and the beef trade was valued at $A0.21 billion.

Wheat and pulses also featured prominently with $A0.15 billion for wheat, $A0.12 for lentils and $A0.086 for chickpeas. Malt extract, wine, carrots and almonds were some commodities amongst the others category on around $A0.02 billion each.

In terms of the source states for these Ag commodities, most came from WA and Victoria, which combined accounted for around 62% of the export trade to the UAE.
